The Best Waxing Techniques to Consider for Your Clients

There are many ways to apply wax to the skin but, these vary depending on the wax you are using, the area you are waxing and the type of hair on your client. Here at Outback Organics we recommend two main techniques when it comes to our peelable waxes and these can be adapted to suit your client.

Paintbrush Technique

Apply the wax onto the end of the spatula and hold upright. Use paintbrush like movements in the direction of the hair growth. Finish application with a rounded edge to ease removal. Remove patch against the hair growth direction.

Buttering Technique

Apply wax onto spatula and position sideways. Using straight downward movements, spread the wax in the direction of the hair growth in an even, large patch. Finish application with a rounded edge to ease removal. Remove patch against the hair growth direction.

For Short Terminal Hair

Apply the wax against the direction of the hair growth in a large patch. This can also be extended to the outer perimeter of the hair. Remove using a slower pull with the direction of the hair growth (wiggle technique).

This can be overlaid a couple of times monitoring the response of the skin in between applications and ensuring full support of the skin on removal of each patch.

Fine Vellus Hair

For fine vellus hairs, (eyebrow/upper lip) that are not removed using the general application principle, apply wax using the Paintbrush technique. Apply and remove against the direction of the hair growth.

Underarm Wax Techniques

Peelable wax is recommended for underarm waxing. The therapist is best positioned to work at the head of the couch. This prevents walking around the bed or leaning over the client to work.

Suggested procedure: –

  • Wear disposable gloves
  • Position client with both arms raised over head
  • Cleanse and prepare underarms using Gel Cleanser
  • Botanical Oil and wipe with a tissue
  • Observe direction of the hair growth
  • Make a paintbrush application to each underarm working with the hair growth direction
  • Work using the two patch concept until both underarms are complete
  • Use appropriate Outback Organics’ aftercare product on a cotton pad
  • Hand client an Outback Organics’ aftercare card

Eyebrow/ Upper Lip Wax Techniques

It is preferable but not essential to carry out any facial waxing with a peelable wax for the following reasons; less adherence to delicate skin, ease of application and reduced irritation to the skin.

Suggested Procedure: –

  • Use the gel cleanser on a cotton pad to clean the area
  • Using a facial spatula, apply the wax in the direction of hair growth
  • Work using the two patch concept until all hair is cleared
  • Tweeze where necessary
  • Use appropriate Outback Organics aftercare product
  • Hand client an Outback Organics aftercare card
