Essential Oils by Outback Organics
There are many essential oils available, but here at Outback Organics we stock a few that we think are particularly versatile. Please note it is important to always mix your essential oils with a carrier oil before applying them to the skin to avoid skin irritation. Carrier oils can be purchased through our sister company Essential Beauty Supplies.

Eucalyptus - a fresh and invigorating scent, eucalyptus is known to aid focus and reduce mental fatigue. It's useful as a decongestant and an insect repellant which makes it perfect for use in a diffuser, and in massage it can soothe aching muscles. It blends well with lavender, lemon and tea tree.
Lavender - well known as a relaxing and calming oil, lavender can be used to aid sleep or help deal with stress. It can help to calm the nervous system and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Its calming effects are not just useful emotionally, but it can also help with inflammation making it potentially effective against acne and even digestive complaints like bloating.
Lemongrass - this bright, zingy fragrance is a great mood enhancer, uplifting and reducing stress. If you want to reduce stress without encouraging sleep, lemongrass is a fantastic alternative to lavender. It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, and can even help regulate oil production in the skin making it ideal for acne prone skin. It can also be used as an insect repellant due to its strong citrussy scent.
Patchouli - a woody fragranced base note oil, patchouli can help ease headaches and cold symptoms, treat dandruff and skin conditions like psoriasis and relax you for a good nights sleep. It's another anti-inflammatory oil, great for massaging in to tired muscles as it may also have pain relieving effects (but more studies are needed on this).
Tea Tree - one of the best known natural anti-bacterial oils around, tea tree forms the basis of many Outback Organics products. It can be effective against fungal infections, insect bites and eczema.

Oil fragrances are divided in to top notes, middle notes, and base notes. In many cases you want to blend fragrances of different notes to create a balanced fragrance, but this is a guide rather than a rule. In general citrus fragrances are top notes, floral and herbal scents are middle notes and the woody ones are base notes.
By blending and combining Essential oils, you can create bespoke blends to suit your clients needs. Let's talk about some of our favourite combinations using our essential oils.
Lavender & Patchouli - A deeply relaxing blend, the Patchouli provides some depth and richness to the lavender scent. This blend would be perfect for people experiencing sleeplessness, especially if it's caused by stress.
Patchouli & Lemongrass - A brighter and more uplifting answer to stress, the patchouli is balanced and grounding while the lemongrass lifts the spirits and mood. A wonderful combination for depression.
Eucalyptus & Tea Tree - two fragrances with similar profiles, this combination is great for mental clarity as well as those suffering the effects of a cold. Add a little lemongrass to bring some energy to the blend.
Lemongrass & Tea Tree - An antimicrobial blend perfect for blemish prone skin, this spot-fighting duo can also boost mental focus and mood making it perfect for studying teens.
Eucalyptus & Lemongrass - This refreshing blend has a lemon/menthol quality that slightly reminds us of cough sweets, but it's also a sweet and refreshing combination of oils that energises and stimulates the senses.
You can combine any oils that you and your client enjoy. Just ensure they're correctly diluted for the amount of oil you're using and that the oils you've chosen are safe for your client. Contra-indications for aromatherapy can be surprising, so please ensure you're using essential oils safely and responsibly.
