Wax FAQs

What types of wax do Outback Organics offer?

We offer four core types of professional salon wax: peelable (hot / hard) wax, strip (soft) wax, roller wax cartridges, and classic strip wax tubs. Peelable wax is strip-free and ideal for sensitive and intimate areas – it sets on the skin, grips the hair and removes cleanly without strips. Strip wax is used with paper or fabric strips and is designed for fast coverage on larger areas. Cartridge wax supports quick, even application for high-throughput salons. And our classic strip wax range includes warm crème or honey-style formulas for therapists who prefer a more traditional waxing method.

Which wax should I choose for intimate or sensitive areas?

For intimate, underarm and facial waxing, we recommend our peelable (hot / hard) waxes. Options include Opal, Jade, True Blue, White, and Onyx – each designed to grip the hair (not the skin) for better control and improved client comfort on delicate zones. If you’re dealing with short, coarse, or strongly rooted hair, therapists often reach for Opal or Onyx. Many of our peelable formulas also feature low melting points and fast setting times, helping you work efficiently without compromising results.

Are your waxing products vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes – all of our waxes are cruelty-free, and the majority are vegan-friendly. Many formulas are made without beeswax or animal-derived ingredients, including Opal, Jade, White, True Blue and Onyx, plus the full strip wax range. Gold Peelable is the main exception, as it contains beeswax (and is not suitable for vegan clients). Vegan status is clearly indicated on each product page so it’s easy to choose suitable options for your treatment menu.

Are your waxes suitable for clients with allergies?

We offer options designed for clients who are prone to sensitivity. For example, Opal Peelable is described as hypoallergenic and free from colophony (a common skin sensitiser). We also have fragrance-free options such as Gold Peelable and Gold Strip Wax. As best practice, always carry out a patch test when treating clients with known allergies, sensitivities, or skin conditions.

What is the difference between peelable and strip wax?

Peelable wax (also known as hot / hard wax) is applied in a thin layer, allowed to set, and then removed directly by hand – no strip required. It’s ideal for smaller, more delicate areas like the face, underarms and intimate zones. Strip wax, by contrast, stays soft on the skin and requires a paper or fabric strip for removal. It’s best used on larger areas such as legs, backs or chests, where speed and coverage are important.

What are the benefits of using wax cartridges?

Wax cartridges support fast, efficient services in busy salons. The fixed roller head helps distribute wax evenly, reducing mess and helping streamline treatment time. They’re well suited to large areas like legs and arms, and many therapists use them for ‘speed waxing’ techniques. Our cartridge waxes share the same high-performance, gel-texture feel as our strip waxes, with popular options including True Blue and Opal.

Are your waxes easy to work with?

Yes. All of our waxes are formulated for smooth application and clean removal in professional salon settings. Our peelable waxes are made with advanced polymers to support fluidity, flexibility and control, while strip wax and cartridge wax formulas have a gel-like texture that glides easily and leaves minimal residue. Many formulas also have low melting points, helping improve client comfort and saving therapists time during treatments.

How long does the hair need to be for an intimate wax?

As a general rule, hair should be at least 1cm long (around 2–3 weeks of growth since the last shave or wax). This helps the wax grip the hair properly for clean removal. For more client prep tips, see our guide for first-time waxing clients.

How long should an intimate wax take?

Booking time: 40 minutes

Treatment time: 30 minutes

How often does a client need to rebook for an intimate wax?

Most clients should rebook every 3–4 weeks. This allows enough time for hair to reach the ideal length and helps maintain consistently smoother results.

Do your waxes have added fragrance?

We offer both fragranced and fragrance-free options across our wax formats. For example, White Peelable has a calming lavender scent, Jade Peelable includes eucalyptus, and Onyx Peelable has citrus and woody notes. Gold Peelable and Gold Strip Wax, on the other hand, are fragrance-free and ideal for clients with scent sensitivities. Full fragrance details are listed on each product description.

Can I buy your waxes without a trade account?

No. Our waxes are professional-grade and available exclusively to trade account holders. This helps ensure products are used by trained therapists who understand safe, effective application. If you’re a salon owner or professional therapist, you can register for a trade account to access the full wax range.

Can you wax a pregnant client?

Many salons choose to avoid waxing during the first trimester as a precaution. After this, waxing can often continue as normal if the client is well – however, always follow your training, consultation, and insurance guidance, and adapt the treatment for comfort. Pregnancy can increase sensitivity, so work in smaller patches, maintain excellent skin support and check in with your client regularly. For calming, skin-supporting aftercare, see our pre & post-depilation range.

Take into consideration:

  • Heightened sensitivity during pregnancy – work in smaller sections and ensure your stretch/support is thorough.
  • Avoid lying the client flat on their back for prolonged periods; raise them to around a 40–45-degree angle, and allow side positioning where needed (e.g. for backs of legs).
  • Book extra time to allow for comfortable posturing and regular comfort checks.

Can I wax a client who has her period? What precautions should I take?

Yes – but do expect increased sensitivity. For hygiene and comfort, many therapists recommend a menstrual cup (e.g. Mooncup) where appropriate, or a tampon with the string tucked away to avoid contact with wax. Maintain strict hygiene and client comfort checks throughout the treatment.

How do I deal with erections with a male intimate wax client?

This can happen and is often a normal physiological response in a sensitive service. The most professional approach is to stay calm, continue your consultation-led tone, and avoid making it a focus.

If needed, pause briefly or move to a different area until the client feels comfortable to continue. A simple, matter-of-fact reassurance can help reduce anxiety and keep the service professional.

If your safety is compromised at any stage, or a client behaves inappropriately, stop the treatment immediately, leave the room, and follow your salon safeguarding process (including alerting a colleague or manager).

Are there any additional considerations your clients need to be aware of before having a waxing service?

Avoid using strong exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) or retinoid products on the area for at least 3 days before waxing. Do not use hair removal creams or shave for 2 weeks before the appointment. We also recommend showering before the treatment; cleansing products and wipes can support a clean, comfortable service – see our pre-depilation (pre-wax care) range.
